Presentation of the POI

LO is a Trotskyist party which was founded in 1968 after its predecessor, Voix ouvrière (Workers' Voice) was banned due to its support to May 68 events. Its official name is actually Union communiste (trotskyste) (Communist (Trotskyist) Union), but that is rarely used in practice, the name of its weekly magazine being almost invariably used instead, even when running the elections. On the international level, the party is the central component of a Trotskyist current which is organized as the Union Communiste Internationaliste (Internationalist CommunistUnion).

Flag of LO

The flag of LO (photo, photo, photo, photo, photo, photo) displays its semi-official name in white on a red field. The text is inscribed in two rows, all letters lowercase, the letter sizes selected so that both rows have identical lengths. The typeface is very specific, based on replacing curved strokes with those derived from rounded rectangles. This inscription also serves as the party logo, either alone or combined with other elements, such as the official party name inscribed below or the motto "Prolétaires de tous les pays, unissez-vous!" ("Workers of the world, unite!") inscribed above - both inscribed in a more "ordinary" typeface (Arial/Helvetica or similar) - or hammer and sickle placed next to the inscription(s); none of these additional elements seem to appear on the flags.
